FADO HISTORY AND EVOLUTION
Fado is a music style unique to Portugal, originally from humble people of Lisbon, mainly in Mouraria and Alfama, the oldest Lisbon neighbourhoods. Its origins have been attributed to many cultural influences, from the long ago Arab presence in Iberia to African and Brasilian music in the times of Portuguese empire.
How has Fado evolved over the years, from its humble beginnings to being recognised in 2011 by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity?
What are the main characteristics that define it? A voice and a special guitar? Poetry of longing?
What is Fado's connection with Portuguese society of the last two centuries and the transformations it experienced?
For sure, many other questions might arise during the Fado Night Tour and, as a Fado aficionado, I will share the history and stories of Fado. Your experience will be wider than just seeing and hearing it.
